Supplemental Benefits
Catering to LA County public sector employees. Voluntary benefits through payroll deduction at no cost to your employer.
How Supplemental Benefits Work
Supplemental benefits are voluntary insurance products that complement your existing health coverage. Premiums come directly from your paycheck. When a covered event occurs, cash is paid directly to you to use however you need.
LA County Public Sector Organizations Served
These supplemental benefits are available to employees of the following LA County public sector organizations through payroll deduction at no cost to your employer.
Payroll Deduction
Premiums are automatically deducted from your paycheck. No bills, no hassle.
Cash Paid to You
Benefits are paid directly to you, not to hospitals. Use the money for anything you need.
No Cost to Employer
100% employee-paid. Your organization pays nothing extra.

Sonia came to our department and explained benefits in a way our HR never had. She helped me sign up for disability coverage I did not even know I needed. My paycheck is protected now.
I enrolled in disability insurance through payroll deduction and the whole process was seamless. Knowing my income is protected if something happens means everything to me.
I am newly married and planning to start a family. Sonia made sure I had hospital indemnity coverage in place before we even started trying. She thought of everything I had not considered yet.
Sonia explained exactly how a critical illness benefit would protect my family. I signed up on the spot and have zero regrets!
Sonia opened my eyes to the gaps I had. She helped me get critical illness insurance and I finally have a real safety net. Professional, kind, and never pushy.
I had a minor accident and the insurance Sonia helped me get came through exactly when I needed it. Cash paid directly to me. So glad I listened!
Supplemental Benefits FAQs
Yes! Wellness benefits are paid per policy. For example, if your disability policy includes a $50 annual wellness benefit and your accident policy includes a $200 wellness benefit, you can submit a qualifying wellness visit to each policy separately and receive both payments. Each policy pays independently.
Pre-existing conditions are handled differently depending on the product and the carrier. Some products have a waiting period before covering a pre-existing condition, typically 12 months. Others use simplified underwriting that may limit or exclude coverage for specific conditions. I review all options with you and find the policy that gives you the best coverage for your situation.
Most supplemental benefit policies are portable, meaning you can take your coverage with you if you leave your employer. You would simply continue paying premiums directly instead of through payroll deduction. This is one of the most important features to look for, and I always confirm portability before recommending a product.
Most accident and disability policies cover you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anywhere in the world. Whether you are injured at home, at work, or traveling internationally, your coverage applies as long as the event is a covered benefit under your policy. I always confirm the worldwide coverage details with each carrier.
GI stands for Guaranteed Issue. A guaranteed issue policy means you are approved for coverage without any medical questions or underwriting. Everyone who applies during an eligible enrollment period is accepted regardless of their health history. GI is typically available during open enrollment periods at your employer.
SI stands for Simplified Issue. A simplified issue policy requires you to answer a small number of basic health questions, but does not require a full medical exam. Approval is typically quick and most applicants with common health histories are accepted. SI policies are commonly offered outside of open enrollment.
Underwriting is the process an insurance company uses to evaluate your health and risk before approving your application and setting your premium. Full underwriting involves detailed health history and possibly a medical exam. Simplified underwriting uses just a few health questions. Guaranteed issue has no underwriting at all. I help you understand which type applies to each product.
Yes, absolutely. Supplemental benefits are designed to work alongside your existing coverage, whether that is employer health insurance, Medicare, or any other plan. They pay benefits directly to you in addition to what your primary insurance pays, helping cover out-of-pocket costs and non-medical expenses your other coverage does not address.
